So how does a professional athlete stay in shape while traveling with her husband around the world during her off season?
Well, at least not the whole time.
Let's be real....working out 12 months a year to stay in shape for a 6-7 month season is madness.
My mind would be broken.
I would have no life.
I probably wouldn't be married.
And I sure as hell couldn't be my best self for everyone around me.
I like to take a month to eat really yummy food, sit on the couch and watch tv, or travel and not have to kick my own ass to get into the gym. Packing on the lbs, losing some muscle and gaining a semi-soft curvy figure (however possible that is for me) is actually kind of fun!
But when it's time to get back into the gym or become active again, I'm actually excited about it. My mind is fresh, I want to work hard and I physically and mentally crave that challenge again.
Not to mention, I lucked out that my husband is a skier and a lot of the training he does really applies to the training we do for volleyball. I will often hop in with him and have a husband and wife training/dueling day until one of us ends up mumbling profanities under our breath (it's usually me). Plus, taking up tennis and skiing this past year was an awesome decision by me (even though I was forced into it by a nameless individual...*cough*Bode*cough*) They are both awesome ways to cross-train, stay active and keep my strength and quickness without actually having to hit the gym.
And you better believe that Bode brought a volleyball on the road to keep our skills sharp.... #athletespouseproblems
